I am a piper of more than 15 years of experience living in Portland. I studied with Jay Salter of Santa Cruz, CA and later received instruction in piobaireachd from Jimmy McColl and Allan MacDonald of the famous piping family from Glenuig, Scotland. Currently, I am the only piper in the state of Oregon who can play not only Scottish Highland bagpipes and Scottish small pipes

Michael Johnston has been playing in competitions and performing on the bagpipes since 1995. He performs at many events each year including weddings, birthday parties, retirement parties, graduation ceremonies, awards ceremonies, highland games, farmers’ markets, whisky tastings, Burns dinners, dances, school programs, parades, funerals, and memorial services.

Gary Guth is an accomplished musician. He started his musical career playing the piano at age 11 and began his bagpipe career in the Helix High School Pipe Band in La Mesa, California more than 40 years ago. He became a choral singer and majored in piano and voice in college. During high school and college he competed in bagpipe competitions sponsored by The Pacific Coast Pipe Band Association, now known as the Western United States Pipe Band Association. He played his way up to the Grade 2 level before he retired from competing to marry and raise a family. Today, Gary is an accomplished full time bagpiper, pianist, and singer.

I teach beginners how to play the Scottish Highland Bagpipe. No experience necessary. I teach in conjunction with The Pipes and Drums of the Seven Pipers Society in Tucson, Arizona. Besides teaching beginners privately, I work the the Preparatory Pipe Band in Seven Pipers.
