November 30, 1292

John Balliol (Toom Tabard or Turncoat) crowned.

John Balliol or John de Balliol (c. 1249 – late 1314), known derisively as Toom Tabard (meaning ’empty coat’), was King of Scots from 1292 to 1296. Little is known of his early life, he was born between 1248 and 1250 at an unknown location; possibilities include Galloway, Picardy, and Barnard Castle, County Durham. After the death of Margaret, Maid of Norway, Scotland entered an interregnum during which several competitors for the Crown of Scotland put forward claims. Balliol was chosen from among them as the new King of Scotland by a group of selected noblemen headed by King Edward I of England.

Jonathan Swift, poet, satirist and clergyman 1670, born in Dublin

Jonathan Swift (30 November 1667 – 19 October 1745) was an Anglo-Irish satirist, author, essayist, political pamphleteer (first for the Whigs, then for the Tories), poet, and Anglican cleric was born on November 30, 1667, in Dublin, Ireland. He became Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, in 1713 hence his common sobriquet, “Dean Swift”.

John Maclean, (24 August 1879 – 30 November 1923) the Scottish political activist and Marxist, was a Scottish schoolteacher and revolutionary socialist of the Red Clydeside era.
