Quitclaim of Canterbury, nullified the Treaty of Falaise

The Treaty of Falaise was a forced written agreement made in December 1174 between the captive William I, “William the Lion”, King of Scots (c. 1028 – 9 September 1087), and Henry II, King of England (5 March 1133 – 6 July 1189).

December 5, 1640

John Atherton, Bishop of Waterford and Lismore, is executed on a charge of immorality

John Atherton (1598 – 5 December 1640) was the Anglican Bishop of Waterford and Lismore in the Church of Ireland. He and John Childe (his steward and tithe proctor) were both tried and executed for buggery in 1640.

King Francis II of France, husband of Mary Queen of Scots, died.

Francis II (19 January 1544 – 5 December 1560) was King of France from 1559 to 1560. He was also King of Scotland as the husband of Mary, Queen of Scots, from 1558 until his death in 1560.

Assemblys College, Belfast, opens for the training of Presbyterian clergy

Union Theological College is the theological college for the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and is situated in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The college was founded in 1853 as the Assembly’s College.
